A computer virus is an executable file containing malicious code. It multiplies itself and is often disguised to look like an authenticated legitimate program, making it hard,if not impossible, to detect. 

Is your computer "acting up?" Does it run very slowly and seem to take far too long to start? Does your "Browser constantly shut down? Are you getting "Out of Memory" messages, although you know you have plenty of RAM? Do some of your programs shut down unexpectedly.
Are you having difficuly installing new programs?
These are some of the symptoms that your computer has a virus.

Antivirus programs must be updated continuously to look for new and modified viruses that can go undetected by an out-of-date anti-virus programs.  I thought my compter was protected but the particular program I was using as part of my Internet access package just wasn't picking up one particularly nasty virus.  It was picked up by one of the computer scanning programs.

if you are an individual only using your computer at home there is still one excellent free anti-virus program.  made by grisoft, called AVG.  it provides once a day scheduling and real-time protection for files and emails.
